It is suggested that we sleep 8 hours a day for overall health and well being. So if we indeed sleep 8 hours a day, we are asleep for one third of our lives. So if I live till 90 years old, I spent 30 years of my life asleep that is 10,950 days.
If 30 years of my life is spend in bed that is all the reason why I want a comfortable bed and bedding. Doesn't have to be expensive but I still want to invest on a durable bed and a comfy bedding. I also enjoy being surrounded by pillows. It is very important to me to get a deep and blissful sleep. I get cranky & groggy if I don't get enough sleep. I cannot think very well too.
Sleep deprivation is not good for our health. We know that getting a good night's sleep is important but few of us do actually enjoy 8 hours of sleep. Our sleep needs are mostly impacted by our lifestyle. I've also noticed that as I get older the less sleep I need. In today's world there are too many stimulant that keeps us awake at night. Drinking coffee is one, energy drinks, cell phone, laptop, television, alarm clock, internal and external lights including lights from electronic devices interferes with our sleeping pattern. Work schedules and stress are also big factors that affect the quantity and quality of our sleep.
Building good sleep habits will help us sleep better and longer.
- Go to bed and wake up at the same time everyday including weekends. It establishes a regular sleep cycle or pattern.
- Avoid all the stimulants mentioned above at lease 4 hours before going to bed.
- Make your bedroom your sanctuary. Have a comfy bed and bedding that will stimulate or promote a deep blissful sleep. Also, keep your bedroom dark.
- Exercise regularly and be physically active during the day will help you fall asleep at night. Exercising will also help you relieve stress. Just avoid exercising 4 hours before bedtime.
